What is the difference between swine fever and african swine fever?
African swine fever and swine fever have very similar names. Many people think that swine fever is the abbreviation of African swine fever, but in fact, it is not the case. Both swine fever and African swine fever are animal diseases required to be reported by the OIE Animal Health Code. They are both classified as animal diseases in China's list of animal diseases and are caused by different viruses.
The difference between African swine fever and swine fever should be distinguished from swine fever in clinical practice. The main characteristics are:
1. The sick pig had a fever for about 4 days when symptoms appeared, and its body temperature dropped. It died about 2 days later. The clinical symptoms of swine fever and elevated body temperature occur simultaneously, presenting as persistent fever until death;
2. African swine fever is mostly a very acute process that takes 4-7 days. Most cases of swine fever are acute, and the process takes more than 10 days;
3. Sick pigs exhibit cyanotic areas in areas without or with few hairs, with clear boundaries. Blood clots appear on the skin of limbs, abdominal walls, and other areas, with a black center. In contrast, swine fever does not have this lesion;
4. African swine fever shows a blood tumor like appearance in the dissected lymph nodes, while the lymph nodes of swine fever exhibit marble like bleeding;
5. There is an increase in fluid in the abdomen, chest, and pericardium, and most organs have edema, while swine fever generally does not have this condition. Animal experiments can be conducted on suspected diseased pigs, and diseased materials can be inoculated into swine fever immunized pigs and susceptible pigs. If both pigs are infected, it is African swine fever, and if only susceptible pigs are infected, it is swine fever.
